On 31 October, at a ceremony organised by the Gaotang County People's Government, the Swiss expert couple Grossenbacher (Pierre Grossenbacher, 1942–2023) were posthumously honoured with the title of ‘Honorary Citizens of Gaotang County’.

The Grossenbachers devoted many years to researching and promoting Gaotang culture. Not only did they achieve remarkable results in the academic field, but they also actively promoted Sino-Swiss cultural exchanges, contributing significantly to raising awareness of Gaotang culture around the world.

Since 2005, they have visited Gaotang several times to conduct in-depth studies of the local historical and cultural heritage. They have written numerous research articles and presented Gaotang culture at international academic conferences, which has helped Gaotang gain greater recognition worldwide.

Their work has focused on Gaotang painting and calligraphy, folk traditions and historical relics, enriching academic knowledge and enabling more foreign friends to discover and appreciate Gaotang culture.
